Our Story: How Lavrose Came to Life

Hi there, and welcome! We're Todor and Elizabet husband and wife, parents, and the hands behind Lavrose. If you've just discovered us, we’re really glad you're here. Before we start sharing candle care tips, fun facts, and behind-the-scenes bits, we wanted to begin with something a bit more personal: how this whole journey actually started.

It All Started at Home...

It all started back in 2020. When the world slowed down and everything felt uncertain, we found ourselves spending a lot more time at home, constantly bouncing around ideas for a business of our own. Since we’re both originally from Bulgaria, our first real attempt was importing handmade Bulgarian garden decorations. The pieces were unique and beautiful, but we quickly hit a wall. It required heavy equipment, a massive warehouse, and a huge initial investment. Most importantly, we had no control over the manufacturing process. Relying on outside production just didn't fit our vision, so we decided to pivot to something we could craft with our own hands, right from home.

From Memories to Candle-Making

Todor grew up in the famous Valley of Roses, where the scent of blooming spring fields is unforgettable. For me, lavender was the fragrance of quiet summer holidays, hanging in bunches by my grandmother’s window.

We decided to give candle-making a go not as a full-fledged business at first, just as a hands-on experiment. We ordered basic supplies, devoured every tutorial we could find, and started pouring candles for our own living room. Soon, we were gifting them to friends, and before long, friends of friends were asking to buy them.

Slowly, Gently, Lavrose Was Born

We took our time perfecting the craft. It was vital that our candles were clean, sustainable, and something we felt completely safe burning around our own family. After endless testing, we settled on a natural coconut and soy wax blend it burns slowly, cleanly, and gently fills a room. The name Lavrose came naturally: a blend of lavender and rose, reflecting both our heritage and our joint effort.

More Than Just Candles

For us, Lavrose is about creating quiet rituals that help you slow down whether that’s lighting a candle while reading, cooking, or unwinding after a long day. We still make every single candle by hand right here in Surrey. No factories, no shortcuts. Just us, pouring, trimming, and labelling with care.

We’ve started this blog to share what we’ve learned and the things we love from candle care tips and behind-the-scenes peeks, to seasonal scents and stories from our day-to-day life as a small family business.
